Motiva Crude Terminaling Project
Project Description
Our team led the development of an advanced crude oil delivery system for Sunoco, connecting their Nederland Marine Terminal (NMT) to Motiva’s Port Arthur Refinery (PAR) in Port Arthur, TX. This initiative played a pivotal role in supporting Motiva’s planned refinery capacity expansion program. The extensive project scope included constructing two 1.5-mile, 36-inch tank transfer pipelines, a 25,000-bph (5,000hp) originating pump station, a metering facility, new manifolds, and three 600,000-bbl aboveground crude oil storage tanks at the NMT. Additionally, an 8.2-mile, 30-inch pipeline was laid between the NMT and the PAR, and a delivery/metering station was established at the PAR. Sunoco conducted dredging of a lay berth in the Neches River.
Our multifaceted role encompassed providing preliminary and final design engineering, facilitating permitting processes, offering procurement support, managing construction through construction management and inspection, and implementing project controls to ensure adherence to schedules. The collaborative efforts and expertise deployed by our team were instrumental in achieving the ambitious project start-up goal by December 1, 2009, showcasing our capabilities in orchestrating the intricate elements of a multifaceted crude oil delivery system to support the expansion plans of Motiva’s Port Arthur Refinery.
